MBTA Social Events

As mentioned in the Introduction on our Home Page, MBTA is essentially an organisation which needs to raise its own funds to be able to mount a programme of twinning activities. Inevitably there are substantial costs incurred in planning visits – travel, hospitality, organised excursions for our guests are the major areas of expenditure and these are considerable. We are treated with regal magnificence whenever we are in Bagnères and seek to show similar generosity to our friends when they visit Malvern.

Experience has shown us that we need to raise at least £1500 p.a. to be able to achieve these aims.
With this in mind MBTA arranges a number of social and fund-raising events throughout the year. All of these are open to MBTA supporters, known as the Friends Group and, in most cases, other people may join in too.

The proposed programme is publicised via the Friends’ Newsletter and/ or by separate email.

Here is a Typical Annual Calendar of Events:

JANUARY: The Great Bagnères Bake-Off.

This is a post-Christmas, pre-diet social event where a themed challenge is set for would-be pâtissiers, and immense pleasure is had by all as we consume the results!

MARCH: Quiz & Quiche night , normally held in the Lyttleton Rooms. To date this has been an extremely popular event; it represents our major source of annual income. The entrance fee includes a generous supper dish, including home-made quiche and baked potato.
