Getting there - independent travel

If you wish to drive the 1,536 kms from Malvern to Bagnères, it should take you just over 15 hours, according to a well-known search engine. But this calculation must assume non-stop travel and might not be to your taste. Committee members who have made already made several trips to Bagnères can recommend alternatives.

  • Easyjet offers a daily service between Bristol and Toulouse. Return flights (‘normal’ extras included) can come in under £100 but, as is always the case, they can also finish up at almost double that price, depending on day of the week, time of year and whether you book well in advance or not.
  • Flybe are, currently, also offering a daily flight between Birmingham and Toulouse. The same price variations are also to be found on this route depending on the factors mentioned above.

Hiring a car on arrival makes for a comfortable final leg of the journey; it takes roughly one hour 45 minutes to drive to Bagnères, nearly all of it on motorways.

BY SEA

If time is not a problem, the long sea crossings operated by Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao or from Plymouth to Santander in Spain offer very agreeable alternatives. There are usually two sailings a week in each direction. The pricing structure is highly variable, depending on the time of year.

One advantage of this alternative is that the drive to Bagnères is relatively short from either port, taking no more than about 4 – 5 hours by car on good motorways.

BY TRAIN
